Living the Perfect Classroom 1

When I finished my questionnaire, I noticed a trend. That trend was that my professional life was better when I was working directly with students, worse when I was away from them, and better when I was able to connect with them.

Since my school is on an alternate schedule, I'm only seeing my students every other day. While I'm reaching out to students via Schoology messages, and I'm getting to know them via FlipGrid, it's still hard to make connections. My students are very sweet and want to learn, but it's been tough. I find myself working so many more hours at home just trying to keep up a facade of normalcy with my students. I've found that I do not believe I could be a teacher who relies on online learning for the majority of my lessons. It's creating more problems than solutions.

I felt such energy today because I was able to actually work with my AP students and TEACH them something in an efficient way. I kept telling my friends at work that I was so excited because I actually taught today, instead of working in the past and putting out fires created by online misunderstandings and failures.

Interestingly, I think this batch of students may actually have a better sense of me as a person because they have seen me in stressful situations, trying to make them better for them.

It's clear that my perfect classroom requires face-to-face learning and connections.
