WOW Reflection

1. My goal was to cut back from PBIS, even though I'm passionate about the work. I tried to carry out my goal by not going out of my way to research, email, or create materials for the team. This was very difficult because we are a 4 person team and I think I've been informally designated the leader, even though I'm not the PBIS Internal Coach (and don't want to be). While I pulled back a little, I didn't verbalize it to anyone so I still had people reaching out to me. It was kind of nice to be a person to bounce ideas off of instead of the person who feels like he has to create the ideas.

2. It's more relaxing to not be so involved, but as much as it's relaxing, it can be just as frustrating because I'm watching things happen that I don't 100% approve of, and things are passing through that aren't up to my standards. So it kind of sucks. Would I rather be stressed and annoyed but producing great products or relaxed but apathetic about my community? I've always skewed toward the former. That connects with my Creative Assertive leadership qualities, but I'm also equally a Dynamic Supporter so I feel torn. A Dynamic Supporter is there to help facilitate others' work, yet a Creative Assertive is there to create ideas and synthesize them into something tangible and they often clash because I have a shrewd eye for details that's both good and bad. I'm a mess.

3. Next time I'd consider having times in the year where I'm all in and working on PBIS, but then taking a backseat afterword. Like I need time to recharge. This relates to being a leader because leaders are often pulled in all kinds of wild directions and they need to remember when to halt their movement and take it slow; still do great work, but at a slower pace to stay sane.

  1. PBIS is tough when only 10% of the school is involved. I think you have great ideas and create amazing work for people to learn and follow. Though you are getting more upset about the adults, I think you deciding to focus more on your own self and your own students will feel more fulfilling because it's easier to manage those fall outs. It's hard to feel like peers aren't pulling their weight because it's not easy to tell a coworker "your ideas are not really good and you dropped the ball on this date when we ______." Nick, you are a great leader and I think sometimes you might be taken advantage of---let others take the lead and just tell them your ideas so they do your work but you have less of load but you can just tell everyone it was your idea when it's time to give a round of applause :) You rock!
